For many years, I have always believed in one important idea: From Asia to the World. This belief is not new. In 2000, when Philip Kotler and I wrote Repositioning Asia: From Bubble to Sustainable Economy, we observed how Asia had experienced major economic crises yet consistently demonstrated its ability to reinvent itself. From a region once associated with economic bubbles and instability, Asia had gradually repositioned itself as one of the most dynamic and sustainable growth engines in the world. The story of Asia has always been a story of resilience, adaptation, and transformation.
Historically, Asia has never been inward-looking. The “flying geese” phenomenon showed how Japan led structural transformation across the region, encouraging Asian economies to move up the value chain while continuously searching for new markets and new opportunities.
